Post-mortem

A post-mortem examination is an effective way to establish a bird's cause of death or to confirm a diagnosis. Especially in a cage or aviary setting, where several birds are kept together, a post-mortem lets you act in time and prevent further complications. Based on the findings, NeorniLab can quickly reach a diagnosis and recommend an appropriate treatment. If needed, further cytological, bacteriological and virological testing can be carried out.

Less well known is a post-mortem on an egg. With unfertilised eggs or embryonic death in the egg, we can investigate infectious and non-infectious causes.

Requesting an autopsy

To request an autopsy, please contact us by phone at +32 (0)11 96 91 02.

You can then bring the bird in during our opening hours, or send it by post (preferably refrigerated). In both cases, please complete the request form as fully as possible.

IMPORTANT: store your bird in the refrigerator (2–8°C) in a plastic (zip) bag immediately after death. The bird must reach us within 72 hours of death. Never store your bird in the freezer, as this can damage the tissue. Bring in eggs as fresh as possible. NeorniLab cannot be held responsible in the event of incorrect storage.
